Announcing the 12 Blogs of Christmas!

On the first blog of Christmas, my blogger gave to me…

An announcement post (in a pear tree).

I had to go pretty underground to reach my word count for NaNoWriMo, and while I will be keeping up with my fiction writing until the first draft of that novel is complete, I won’t be grinding at quite the same pace. This means, I have more room in my day/brain for blogging again!

Additionally, I have relearned through NaNoWriMo that I do really well when I have guidelines and goals. Parameters to work within, deadlines to meet.

With this in mind, I’ve decided to do a challenge I’m calling the 12 Blogs of Christmas (I’m sure I’m not the first person to come up with this idea). I will be posting every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in December and I will do my best to write each post from a place of hope, goodness, and love.

I don’t know about y’all, but my bandwidth is running quite low. Every day there are dozens of stories about corruption, greed, and assault. We are living in a time where the tyranny of evil is running rampant. I’m angry and exhausted, and also don’t want to be so glued to the horrors of the world that I can’t enjoy all the good. And there is so much good, especially this time of year.

Look, I’m basic in that Christmas is my favorite holiday. I love it unapologetically, it makes me happy down to my toes, and having a kid who is old enough to start understanding what it all means makes it infinitely sweeter. I want to enjoy this Christmas season, and not lend my mental energy only to pain and horror, in order to both maintain my mental health and to harness the energy of that which motivates/fuels/fulfills me so I can keep fighting for all that is good and worth preserving in this world.

So in an effort to spread more silliness and light and love on my little corner of the internet, I’m devoting December on Brimming to positivity this season. Not to ignore what is happening, but to make this space a bright spot in my own life and potentially spread that cheer, even a little bit.

If this all sounds grossly cheesy, just remember that in the end, Scrooge finds a way to honor Christmas in his heart and keep it merry all the year, Buddy the Elf teaches everyone to believe in Santa, and the Grinch, he himself, cuts the roast beast. If they can do it, so can you.

See you on Wednesday!
